Training in IFR Decision Making and Ethical Frameworks for Priority Setting

Training available

I offer the following services:

  • A half day, in person, basic training in IFR decision making.
  • A half day, in person, basic training in priority setting.
  • IFR Masterclasses, in person,  which are 2 hour exercise based sessions using ICB’s own cases which presented challenges in decision making at the time.
  • Bespoke training in IFR decision making and processes.
  • Specialist public health advice on difficult cases, where there is potential for legal action.
  • External audit for those ICBs that wishing to audit their IFR process and / or decision making.

I will also be making more detailed training in the form of videos (about 11 hours) and an IFR Manual.  These are more suitable for with more considerable experience in this area of practice. These will be available FREE to ICB’s with only a transfer fee being payable through a secure site.  Application to access these will need to made through this website via the contacts page.  UPDATES will be given on this website but release of the videos is expected to be late 2025 / early 2026 and the IFR Manual late 2026 / early 2027.

I have over 20 years of experience working as a public health doctor in commissioning organisations at both a local and regional level. My area of expertise is priority setting and IFR decision making in particular. I was responsible for producing the series on priority setting for the NHS Confederation in 2008 and I sat on the Committee overseeing the National Prescribing Committee’s programme of work to develop materials to support local decision making around medicines.
